Catto Students Meet Gov. Christie and Shaquille O'Neal

Mayor Dana Redd, Governer Chris Christie and Shaquille O'Neal visited the Boys and Girls Club and Catto students October 10, 2013.

Fifty Catto students, most of whom attend the Boys and Girls Club were called from their classrooms today to meet and greet Mayor Redd, Governor Christie and Shaquille O'Neal.

The visitors came to discuss with students and the media a new after school initiative called, "Just Play."

Shaquille O'Neal shared stories about growing up in Newark, NJ and attending the Boys and Girls club there. He inspired the students and let them know how much he loves NJ and the children of NJ.

One poignant statement Mr. O'Neal made that meant so much to the students was, “You have to keep in mind: It doesn't matter where you’re from ... it just matters where you’re going.”

During an interview with a news reporter, Catto student J. Babilonia stated, “Seeing him and hearing him share his stories changes your mind...It inspires you to set goals for the future.”
